Help Us Help You with a 2D Echo Cardiac Machine

Your heart health is vital to your wellbeing.

When health care providers need to check your heart, you’ll be sent to see a Cardiac Sonographer at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) to receive an ultrasound of your heart using a 2D Echo Cardiac Machine.

Currently, St. Paul’s Hospital can provide a heart ultrasound for up to seven patients per day. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to be one of those patients; but you may have to go home before you have a chance to have an in-Hospital scan.

When the health of your heart is in question, that wait can be incredibly stressful. We care about our patients, and we want to do more for them, but we have to work with what we have.

It doesn't have to be this way...

With your help, St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation will be able to purchase a new 2D Echo Cardiac Machine, one that provides clearer images, with twice as much clinical information in the same amount of time, as the current model. And with two machines on hand, the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital will be able to help more patients every day.

By supporting the purchase of this advanced equipment not only will you be helping the 1336 patients from across Saskatoon and Saskatchewan who come through the SPH Heart Health Program each year, but with the additional capacity for scans at St. Paul’s, patients from other hospitals could be sent to us during times of increased demand.

The patients who will use the new 2D Echo Cardiac Machine will vary widely: From young kids to the elderly; from renal patients to stroke patients to cancer patients; even perfectly healthy people who have a family history of heart disease.

There is no typical patient because the machinery can answer so many different questions for health care providers. It can diagnose cardiomyopathy — disease of the heart muscle. It can measure cardiac output so health care providers know how well it is working. It can assess valves for replacements. It can monitor patients receiving cancer treatments, to make sure there are no ill effects on the heart.

Your support for this machine, called the Epiq 5, will improve patient care and provide innovative, cutting-edge technology to our health care professionals.

The patented Anatomical Intelligence Ultrasound is exclusive to this model. In addition to the 2D scans, it can create 3D anatomical models, bringing new levels of clinical information to diagnoses.

You have the chance to bring heart health care to a new level for everyone in Saskatchewan.

Love, compassion, courage, enthusiasm: These are all emotions we equate with the heart.

Wear your heart on your sleeve, and show your support with a heartfelt donation towards the purchase of the Epiq 5 2D Echo Cardiac Machine.
