Angiojet Ultra Thombectomy System

The Angiojet Ultra Thombectomy System is an important piece of equipment that breaks up and removes clots from both veins and arteries.

A new Angiojet Ultra Thrombectomy at St. Paul’s Hospital will bring advanced care to patients suffering from deep vein thrombosis (the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein.

These clots are dangerous because they can break loose, travel through the bloodstream and block blood flow in the lung); arterial thrombosis (a serious condition where a blood clot in an artery can stop blood from reaching important organs), and pulmonary embolism (a potentially life threatening condition caused by a blockage of a major blood vessel in the lung).

This minimally invasive equipment allows health care providers to treat patients quickly and effectively and will significantly reduce the patient’s time spent in hospital.

Current Situation at St. Paul's

Currently, patients are admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital for one to two days while we monitor the blood clot and wait for it to dissolve.

With the new Angiojet Ultra Thrombectomy System, we can simply remove most of the blood clot, reducing the patient’s length of stay in the hospital!

In addition, the potential for chronic symptoms to occur as a result of clot formation in the veins and arteries will be reduced.

A new Angiojet Ultra Thrombectomy system will allow our Hospital to treat more patients and will reduce the number of follow-up appointments, repeat procedures and home care requirements for patients

The Angiojet Ultra Thrombectomy System will benefit people of all ages, from the young woman suffering from deep venous thrombosis to the eighty year old gentleman suffering from acute blockage on an artery in his leg.
