Progressive Care Unit The Progressive Care Unit (PCU), along with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), is part of the Department of Critical Care at SPH. The Progressive Care Unit is an 8 bed medical/surgical unit created to provide an increased level of skilled nursing care to patients requiring increased intensity of care or interventions. The unit includes 2 Ventilator Transition beds providing care and a weaning protocol for ventilator dependent patients referred from the SHR Adult Intensive Care Units. The intensivist makes the decisions regarding admission, discharge and care of patients.
