Referrals to the Pain Clinic can also made through the Test Centre. Physicians refer patients with chronic pain to the Pain Clinic. Members of a multi-disciplinary team investigate and treat these patients. Anaesthetists are part of the team. They work at St. Paul's Hospital on a rotating basis and are responsible for the anaesthesia-orientated aspect of the Pain Clinic. They conduct investigative procedures such as injections or trigger point sympathetic nerve blocks. Other members of the multi-disciplinary team, who are not located at St. Paul's Hospital, include psychiatrists and physiotherapists. Individuals who come to the Pain Clinic may be suffering from conditions such as myofascia pain, fibromyalgia, back pain, headaches, nerve entrapment, post-hepatic pain, diabetic neuropathy, and stump pain. |
