Enhancing Patient Education at 4th Annual Urology Symposium

Patients and families who are faced with a diagnosis of prostate cancer were given tools to learn how to "Survive & Thrive” at the fourth annual Urology Symposium held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Radisson Hotel.

Presented by Motorcycle Ride for Dad – the symposium featured keynote speakers Dr. Jay Lee and Dr. Mira Keyes. Topics covered radiation therapy, sexual dysfunction and incontinence for prostate cancer patients. The event also featured exhibitors, important resources, patient stories and an open forum with a panel of health experts from the Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health.

“We are so pleased to be able to support this symposium and offer prostate cancer education to our community at no charge” said Bruce Acton, St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation CEO. “There are lots of questions that arise out of a prostate cancer diagnosis, and thanks to Motorcycle Ride for Dad, our donors, and proceeds from other fund raising events, we are able to provide some of these answers to our patients and their families through this symposium.

This is the foruth Urology Symposium, which is a free event held annually by the Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health at St. Paul’s Hospital, and supported by St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. Special thanks to Motorcycle Ride for Dad, media sponsor Rawlco Radio and all the generous donors to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation who make this event happen each year through fund raising events like Driving Fore Prostate, Rock 102’s Caged for the Cure, and  the Gormley Gathering.

The Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health at St. Paul’s Hospital provides important resources and state-of-the-art equipment to enable advanced detection and less invasive treatment options for those suffering from prostate cancer and other urological diseases. The Centre also hosts an annual urology symposium and incorporates a nurse navigator to serve as a patient advocate and liaison between health care providers and patients who need help finding their way through the health care system.
