Raising $4.9 Million To Help Save Time and Save Lives

RAISING $4.9 M TO HELP SAVE TIME AND SAVE LIVES
In surgery, every minute matters…that’s why St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation is launching a campaign to raise $4.9 million to advance all eight operating theatres at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH).

“These advancements to our operating theatres will create a state-of-the-art environment to meet the needs of new, and rapidly evolving surgical procedures,” said Dr. Renee Kennedy, Division Head of Thoracic Surgery. “They will also dramatically increase operating theatre efficiency, resulting in better patient care and reduced wait times for surgery.”

Surgical care has evolved significantly over the past several years, with technological innovations providing incredibly precise, minimally invasive surgical techniques. These techniques result in faster recovery time, reduced scarring, reduced trauma and blood loss, all providing better care for the patient.

“Our Hospital hosts over ten thousand surgical procedures annually and our operating theatres are in almost continuous use,” said Bruce Acton, SPH Foundation CEO. “After hearing what these advancements can do for surgical teams, we knew immediately that we had to help make this project a reality, and advance all eight of our operating theatres.”

The changes to the operating theatres include the installation of advanced integrated suites – a first for Saskatoon hospitals! These integrated suites will improve efficiencies, reduce wait times, advance surgical training and education opportunities, create the conditions to attract and retain world class surgical teams and prepare St. Paul’s Hospital for a future of surgical innovation.
