End-of-Life Conversations Guide offers support

Emmanuel Health has released a new resource, “End-of-Life Conversations: A Guide for Emmanuel Health Staff.” The Guide was developed by Emmanuel Health spiritual care practitioners in collaboration with the Emmanuel Health Ethics Committee in an effort to support staff who would like to reflect more deeply on how they respond to the people who in their care who inquire about death and dying.

The resource presents three scenarios in which a staff member may need to provide recognition, listening, and support. How each layer of care is offered will depend on the context of the staff member and the person receiving care, so team members are encouraged to reach out to supervisors, colleagues, and others to consider the best approach.

The Guide’s release comes shortly after the release of the Catholic Bishop’s of Saskatchewan’s pastoral lettre, “Dying with Hope: Living and Walking Together.” Both documents as well as the Bishops of Saskatchewan’s 2017 pastoral lettre, “Living Through Our Dying,” are available at the links below.
